Circuit of the Americas Raceway is home of the first open wheel racing in the United States. Access Surveyors was hired by Austin Bridge and Road to perform 3-D paving operations, construction layout, utilities, control surveys and building structures for this mega raceway park. Access Surveyors was elected as the Lead Survey Team for the track layout, utilizing robotic machine control. With its winding ways, vertical curves, hair-pin turns and grade elevation changes of greater than 133 feet, COTA is a project that truly put our minds and wide array of skills to use. Listed below are quantities and work performed while on-site.

Tolerances for the final surface were set to not exceed 1/8 of an inch.

  • ±400,000 tons of flex base and asphalt poured on the 1,000+ acre site.
  • 50,000+ tons of flex base
  • 18,000+ tons of asphalt laid for binding
  • 90,000+ tons of asphalt for mid-layering
  • 22,000+ tons of asphalt for final, smooth finish racing surface.
  • Tolerances for the final surface were set to not exceed 1/8 of an inch.
